Ravi Ahuja will succeed Tony Vinciquerra as the CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, the Hollywood division of Tokyo-based Sony Group Corp., starting in January. Currently serving as Sony’s Chairman of Global Television and Chief Operating Officer, Ahuja will report to Sony Group Chairman Kenichiro Yoshida and Chief Operating and Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki, the company announced on Monday.

“Since joining SPE in 2021, Ravi has played a central role in Tony’s leadership team, steering the company through the challenges of today’s media landscape and positioning SPE for continued growth,” Yoshida stated.

Ahuja joined Sony after a successful career in television management at Fox Networks and Walt Disney Co. At Sony, he has overseen the production of award-winning series such as The Crown, The Boys, Gen V, Better Call Saul, and The Last of Us.

Vinciquerra has been with Sony Pictures since June 2017, guiding the company through five consecutive years of profit growth by enhancing Sony’s film slate, as noted in the statement. During his tenure, he oversaw the acquisition of anime studio Crunchyroll in 2021 and established a streaming distribution agreement with Netflix Inc., opting for this route instead of following competitors in creating a proprietary online video platform—an approach that has cost Warner Bros. Discovery Inc., Paramount Global, and Disney tens of billions of dollars in recent years.
